You can use the Project details palette (to the left of the full view) and the toolbar (at the bottom of the full view) to control which parts of the building model are visible and how these visible parts look in the full view.

Whereas the Project details palette allows you to show and hide entire structural levels and specialist models, the toolbar enables you to hide objects or to isolate objects by making all other objects transparent.

Topics on this page:

Showing the Project details palette

The Project details palette gives you an overview of the data structure of the currently open project and all its specialist models. You can use the Models and Building structure areas in this palette to control which objects are visible in the full view. As the settings in these two areas overlap, you can only find objects that are visible in both areas.

In addition, you can use the Models area to make models or their subordinate object groups transparent.

To show or hide the Project details palette

This is only possible if

→  You have loaded the Bimplus project into BIM Viewer (see "Bauwerksmodell in den BIM Viewer laden")

  • Click Show project details on the left sidebar.

↑ Go to top

Setting visibility and transparency across specialist models and object types

Using the Models area of the Project details palette, you can set the specialist models and the object types in these models to visible, invisible or transparent. You can define this setting for a specialist model in its entirety or for each individual object type in this model.

To define visibility and transparency at model level

This is only possible if

→  You have loaded the Bimplus project into BIM Viewer (see "Bauwerksmodell in den BIM Viewer laden")
→  The Project details palette is open (see "Showing the Project details palette“)

  • In the Model area, go to the line of the relevant specialist model and click Toggle visibility or  Toggle opacity.

    Or:

  • Open the structure tree for the specialist model in the Models area. Go to the line of one of the subordinate object groups and click Toggle visibility or Toggle opacity.

Setting visibility using the structural levels of the building structure

The Building structure area shows the hierarchical structure of each specialist model in accordance with the Allplan building structure or the specifications for the IFC format using the following levels: site (IFCSite), building (IFCBuilding) and story (IFCBuildingStory).

As the Allplan drawing file structure is defined neither in IFC nor in BIM, you cannot find this structure in Bimplus either. The same applies to the Allplan layer structure, which is completely different in BIM and IFC.

To define visibility using the building structure

This is only possible if

→  You have loaded the Bimplus project into BIM Viewer (see "Bauwerksmodell in den BIM Viewer laden")
→  The Project details palette is open (see "Showing the Project details palette“)

  1. Go to the Building structure area and open the structure tree for the relevant model as far as the required structural level.

  2. Click Toggle visibility to set the objects of this structural level from visible to invisible or from invisible to visible.

Note: The setting in the Models area is superordinate to the setting in the Building structure area. Consequently, only the objects of the models selected in the Models area are visible in the full view.

Setting visibility and transparency at object level

To see all components of the building model, you can hide masking objects.

As an alternative, you can isolate objects. This option is particularly useful for complex building models, allowing you to focus on particular components.

Hiding objects

To hide objects

This is only possible if

→  You have loaded the Bimplus project into BIM Viewer (see "Bauwerksmodell in den BIM Viewer laden")

  1. Go to the toolbar at the bottom of the full view and click Hide to activate this tool.

  2. Click the object you want to hide. You can click any number of objects one after the other.

  3. To deactivate this tool, click Hide again.
The objects you clicked are still hidden.

Note: To make all objects visible again, click Reset.

Isolating objects

To isolate objects

This is only possible if

→  You have loaded the Bimplus project into BIM Viewer (see "Bauwerksmodell in den BIM Viewer laden")

  1. Click to select the object you want to isolate. To select several objects, hold down the CTRL key while clicking the objects.

  2. Go to the toolbar at the bottom of the full view and click Isolate.
This makes all the other objects transparent so that you can clearly see the selected object(s).

Note: To make all objects visible again, just click Isolate again.

Creating horizontal sections and vertical sections through the building model

You can create sections through the building model. These sections are parallel to the x, y or z plane. If you want, you can move the cutting plane so that it is perpendicular to the x, y or z plane.

Note to Allplan users: Allplan and Bimplus use different coordinate systems (Allplan z-axis = Bimplus y-axis; Allplan y-axis = negative Bimplus z-axis).

To create a section through the building model

This is only possible if

→  You have loaded the Bimplus project into BIM Viewer (see "Bauwerksmodell in den BIM Viewer laden")

  1. Go to the toolbar at the bottom of the full view, click Section and select the cutting plane you want to use. You can choose between X, Y and Z.

Note: To deactivate the section, click Section again.

  2. If you want to move the cutting plane
Click to select the cutting plane and move it by scrolling up or down with the mouse wheel.
